FREE Quick Guide for Stornoway Cape

Pinned PostFiona AlexanderComment

Each of my patterns has a one page Quick Guide which is great for experienced sewists who maybe do not need to read the full instructions or for using once you have made the pattern once and just need a reminder of the steps to keep you on track. I have several up on the wall of my sewing room for the garments I make the most.

You could also print only the Quick Guide and just read the full instructions on screen when you need to - saving ink and paper and being environmentally friendly.

The Stornoway Cape is a simple design so you can go crazy on the fabric! Great for fabulous heavy cotton/linen or wool fabric. Stunning with a turtle neck jumper in the winter. The cape is fully lined so you don’t have to worry about finishing any seams. It is a super make for old/discarded curtains. The fabric used for both of the capes in the above photograph had a previous life as curtains. The curtains were faded in parts so no longer used but great for cutting up the good sections and transforming into capes. Curtain fabric is usually mid-heavy weight and so excellent for capes because they hold their shape beautifully.

I wanted to share the Quick Guide for the Stornoway Cape for two reasons:

  1. to show you an example of my Quick Guides which come with every pattern of mine; and

  2. to show you that the Stornoway Cape has relatively easy sewing when you consider the high “I cannot believe I made this” factor. You can always use hook and eye closures if you don’t fancy doing the buttonholes. The ruffle is also optional so you could take the easier option of no ruffle at first and make another one with a ruffle later when you feel more confident.

The Stornoway Cape is available in adult and children sizes.

There is something about a cape that says “vintage glamour” to me! I would love to make my next one with a velvet or faux fur collar.

Here I am, measuring a cape made from Sanderson Chelsea curtains.
